Briarcliffe, Ottawa, ON.
DESIGNER(S)
CONSTRUCTED 1961-1969

“The creation of the Briarcliffe Heritage Conservation District is an important milestone in heritage conservation in Canada. This unique environment, created by bold and forward- thinking architects and their clients, is well known in the Canadian architectural community as a rare, intact example of innovative mid-century planning and residential architecture that is an important part of our collective cultural heritage.  The district, characterized by the juxtaposition of uncompromisingly modernist homes and the wild Canadian landscape was at the forefront of design thinking in its time, and represents an ideal that remains current among many influential architects today.  In fact, it is not unreasonable to say that homes such as those found in Briarcliffe represent what the international architectural community thinks of when contemporary design in Canada is discussed.”
