Urbanspace Gallery: Your Ontario Place

Incredible change looms over Ontario Place. The iconic architecture and the bright colours of the pavilions, signs and waterslides are at odds with the eerie silence there. It’s waiting for a decision from us.

How did we get here? How did the confidence that we were able to express in the early days of Ontario Place slip into this meandering uncertainty that guides us now? Once we were able to say proudly, “Ontario Place: It’s All Yours!” and now the debate revolves around the question, “Whose Ontario Place?”

In this exhibition, you’ll find the story of your Ontario Place, told through the original model of the site, drawings, rare photographs, histories, stories, and more. Witness how this incredible architectural project came to be, what it was like in those optimistic early years, and contribute your own stories of Ontario Place at our memory wall.

But let’s not stop there. This exhibition will also feature a proposal about how to bring clarity of vision back to Ontario Place and return it to all Ontarians, drawing inspiration from recent projects around Toronto and abroad. More details to come.
